Loose Palo Santo Powder creates the most consistent burn. The Powder burns on its own so no coal is necessary. The smoke offers the same uplifting smell of citrus and hints of mint as the incense sticks do.

Palo Santo (Bursera Graveolens) is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America and is related to Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal. In Spanish, the name literally means “Holy Wood”. It is part of the citrus family and has sweet notes of pine, mint and lemon. When burned, it cleanses energy, repels insects and mosquitoes and is well known for its healing properties for illnesses.

The Palo Santo we stock is from All Sacred Wood Essence and is naturally cured on the forest floor from 4 up to 10 years and is ethically harvested, offering sustainably high quality Palo Santo products.

At Sacred Wood Essence they practice deep respect for Palo Santo (Bursera Graveolens). This “Holy Wood” from South America has the power to purify living spaces, soothe frayed nerves, and delight the senses. It also brings livelihood to our partner communities who gather and steward it in their homelands.

When a Palo Santo tree falls in the Ecuadorian forest, they plant more! Since their inception in 2008, Sacred Wood Essence has worked with their partner communities to plant tens of thousands Palo Santo trees, ensuring abundance for generations to come.

Their partner communities never cut down Palo Santo trees. In fact, it is illegal to do so under Ecuador’s strict conservation laws. After strong annual storms knock Palo Santo trees down, the fallen wood must remain on the forest floor for up to a decade to allow the aromatic resins to develop and cure.

Gathering Palo Santo has brought livelihood to many families in the Ecuadorian coastal forests. They believe that when communities earn just livelihood in harmony with nature, everyone benefits.  They take their role as facilitators of this interwoven relationship seriously at Sacred Wood Essence.

Palo Santo touches their lives every day, not only through the healing power of its aroma, but also through the good works they are able to perform in its service.  They are blessed to have received inspiration to work with this magical tree.

  • Burning Palo Santo

Take a teaspoon of Incense Powder and place it in a burn proof bowl or shell.  We recommend our copper bowl.   Use a candle, match or lighter to ignite the Palo Santo incense.    Blow out the flame and you will see smoke start to dissipate. Move about your workspace, home, car, bathroom or anywhere you would like to clear the energy.  The rich smell will also bring peace and clarity to the moment along with good feelings .  When finished, make sure the incense is no longer burning and place it in a safe space.  Always use caution and respect when working with fire.
